NORTH BERWICK (NEWS CENTER) - An old mill building in the town of North Berwick has new life.
On Monday, state and local officials celebrated the first project in Maine to use funding from a tax credit program that encourages the rehabilitation of historic buildings.
At one time workers in the old woolen mill made blankets for civil war soldiers.
Now the building houses low income apartments for the elderly.
Town officials were thrilled when the Caleb Foundation decided to turn it into apartments.
The foundation is a non profit organization that creates low income housing with a goal of helping people become self sufficient.
"We love it. Every day there's a different story, success stories. some failures, but mostly success stories with the residents", said Caleb Foundation president Debra Nutter.
The building has remained mostly vacant for years, but back in 1995 it was used to shoot some scenes for the film Jumanji, starring Robin Williams.
